There is much to learn in Battle River Country. Soon we will make the trip to Battleford at its eastern end. Like the river, it has survived the passage of time. As one of the oldest communities in Western Canada if has impressive historical sites. Founded in 1875 as a Fur Trading Post and the first established NWMP post, Battleford is amongst the oldest communities in Saskatchewan and boasts spectacular historic sites which have survived the passage of time.

The time has come to make that trip to the Battlefords and the Endwaters of Battle River ― something for which preparations have been in the making since 2012.
On April 13, 2019, Jack Ross, Judy Louis, and BR LGAAA Co-Chairs Roy Louis and Jane Ross, travelled to Battleford. As a guest of the Allen Sapp Gallery and Leah Garven (Curator, North Battleford Galleries and Museums), Elder Roy Louis offered protocol to Elder Gladys Wapass- Greyeyes for connecting the landscape, communities and arts of Battle River Region. On that day, Elder Gladys Wapass-Greyeyes of Thunderchild First Nation accepted the offering, signifying willingness to receive Battle River visitors on September 30, 2019.
The visit coincides with Orange Shirt Day.
Please bring expressions of friendship and regionality:
e.g., books, commemorative objects, etc.

https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/lhn-nhs/sk/battleford/culture/histoire-history A 10 minute drive from the Alan Sapp gallery. The Fort will be closed for the season however, we can see the setting and the Endwaters is a very short drive from there.
Indigenous Cemetery: We will have to walk through a pasture and down a hill. So bring walking shoes. It is a beautiful view from above for any who chose to wait while others walk to the site.
