HEADWATERS OF BATTLE RIVER, Sacred ceremony September 1, 2019

In honour of Battle River Headwaters and the September 2019 celebrations that will take us to the river’s Endwaters at Battleford on September 30, this gathering will include sacred thoughts such as:

  • Canticle of the Creatures by St. Francis of Assis: honouring the four elements of Sun, Land, Fire and Air, this ancient prayer is an expression of gratefulness and praise.

  • Other expressions of hope and gratitude.

    September 2019 as the month of the

    Battle River Lt. Governor of Alberta Arts Awards.

  • 10 am . . .

    Meet at Battle River Campgounds Parking Lot (directions below) from where we will travel together to the little bridge between Battle Lake and the headwaters of the river.

  • Headwater Ceremonies . . .

    This is a special time to reflect together on the ways in which wahkohtowin has been

    experienced in Battle River Region thus far in 2019, and to express commitments to the future wellbeing of the water, wind, air and fire of our region.

  • Mt. Butte . . .

    After the Headwater Ceremonies, we will travel to the foot of Mt. Butte.

    Rajan Rathnavlu will be guidance for those who want to climb to the top.

  • Noon . . .

    Please bring picnic potluck for lunch together

  • Directions to the Battle Lake site -- where to meet up at 10am:

    1. From Hwy 2, travel 19 miles West on Hwy 13, turn right onto Battle Lake Trail, travel West and follow the Battle Lake Park signs (approx. 3 miles).

    2. From Winfield, travel 13 miles East on Hwy 13, turn left onto Battle Lake Trail and follow Battle Lake Park signs (approx. 3 miles).
